The cornea is too flat or the eye is too short. Light entering the hyperopic eye is focused behind the retina.
This creates a blurry image for near vision while there is very little effect on distance vision. In case of severe hyperopia distance vision is also affected.
The LASIK technique with the Zeiss excimer laser corrects the refractive errors by removing peripheral corneal tissue thus creating a central corneal curvature. This change in shape brings the focal point of light forward on the retina itself, and thus clearer eyesight.
